Zhaoqing High-tech Industrial Development Park is a provincial high-tech Park approved by the provincial government in 1998. It enjoys the city-level economic management and administration approval rights.

At the end of 2001, the government approved the expansion and relocation in Dawang, making the total area increase to 98 sq.km. The first-phase planning area is 25 sq.km. In July 2004, the provincial government decided to develop it into a key Guangdong industrial park to attract foreign investment as well as a Guangdong pilot park to attract foreign investment for mountain area. It also established a planning and construction coordination group consisting of 1 leader (Tang Bingquan, executive vice governor) and 22 members (directors of 22 departments directly under the province), and introduced six supporting policies for its rapid development.
